Dbdrag racing see's bass heads from all over the uk congregate to find the best test tone frequency thier systems will play at & go head to head with each other to see who is the loudest for each given class.

Bass race is similar to DBdrag racing in that each competitor has to play thier systems loud, but the fun of bass race is that you have a target bracket to stay within & you have to play real music through your system for a period of 30 seconds & battle against each other to see who can maintain the highest score within the bracket without busting out.

As with every year mega-watt is keen to support anyone who is willing to represent the shop in these competitions. Regardless if you have a loud expensive system or a small sealed sub in the boot, there is always room for new competitors in both bass race & Dbdrag. If you are interested in competing in either of these formats we can help by way of providing you time & equipment to test your systems to help you realise where your can improve. we can also provide discounts on car audio equipment if you are willing to use our supported brands.

For this first event mega-watt supported Alan Lee & Chris "wilfy" wilmott in thier quest to get loud in both bass race & DBdrag.

Wilfy is currently competing in DBdrag Street C and Bass race 130.0db-139.9db.

His equipment for this show is as follows:

2 x MTX Thunder T612s-44 dual 4ohm 12" subwoofer's

2 x JL Audio 1000/1 Mono Amplifier's

At the show wilfy finnished 3rd in street C with a good starting score of 145.3db for the first show of the year and he came first in 139.9 bass race class, not bad considering the whole system has been installed in the car over a week of evenings before the show, we expect this to go a hell of alot louder as the year progresses.

Alan has done only one event in the past so this event was a taster for him to listen to a few systems for his to decide which route he wants to go down.

For this event he competed in Street B and bass race 120.0db-129.9db bass race.

His equipment for this show is as follows:

1 x JL Audio GMAX Mono Amplifier

2 x JL Audio 12W3v3-4 12" 4ohm subwoofer's

At the show Alan finnished 1st in Street B with 142.7db and 2nd in bass race 129.9. we are very happy with these results considering it was only decided alan was going to run at this show a week previous and for anyone consisering competing hopefully this will show you that even a first/second time runner can do well & even get trophies. after looking around all the builds with alan at the show it's clear he is thinking much bigger scale than the current boot install and we can see a walled system at a later date.

The show this year was really fun, lots of cars to see, catch up some people we've not seen for a while and get to listen to some MEGA LOUD INSTALLS!!!!

Theres only one way to end this news item & that is to include a picture to show the sky's the limit when it comes to bass if your crazy enough to push things far enough then something will give... unfortunatly our friend alex who now holds this years current record for loudest install in the UK unfortunatly bust his windscreen out whilst gettting his record breaking score, below is what can happen if you put 161 decibels through a volkswagon transporter T4.

We have always been very big supporters of all competition formats and do everything we can to help our customers improve all they can with thier system. From Termlab testing to Sound quality testing using audio control RTA along with years of knowledge in the scene we are certain we have everything available to help.

This week saw the return of "wilfy" to build & test his first box aimed at competing in both Dbdrag & E.M.M.A SPL competitions. This first box was made to play normal everyday music as loud as the sub & amp combo will give.

The subwoofer is a JL audio 15" W0 it's a nice budget woofer aimed to get people started on the road to bass, this will most certainly not be the final subwoofer wilfy has in his car, but for now along with the small MTX 2 channel amp he has, it will help us understand how the bass is working within his car and will provide information needed for the future when bigger upgrades are made.

Below are a couple of pictures of the current box along with a final screen shot of the termlab test which saw the sub doing 137.7 decibels at 50hz. next week we will be using a more powerfull amp & taking things further.

So the sky line is stripped down and in the process of a full JL audio rebuild.
